This data is obtained from 2001 Census, Key Statistics. This table provides information in counts and percentages on population by the means of travel to work.
A person who carried out paid work in the week before the Census, whether self-employed as employee, is described as employed or in employment. ‘Paid work’ includes casual or temporary work, even if only for one hour; being on a government-sponsored training scheme; being away from a job/business ill, on maternity leave, on holiday or temporarily laid off; or doing paid or unpaid work for their own or family business.
The means of travel used for the longest part, by distance, of the usual journey to work. For the purposes of this table, public transport is defined as Underground, metro, light rail or tram, train and bus, minibus or coach. In this table, the number of people who travel to work by public transport who live in a household with/without a car or van is expressed as a percentage of the number of people who travel to work. Note that these columns may not sum to 100% as residents of communal establishments who travel to work by public transport are omitted.
The confidentiality of personal Census information is paramount, and disclosure protection measures are used to prevent the inadvertent disclosure of information about identifiable individuals. When releasing the 2001 Census data ONS used incorrect ward boundaries for Wolverton and Stony Stratford wards. Figures for these two wards have been adjusted by MKC to reflect the correct boundaries.
