Joint Strategic Needs Assessment Executive Summary 2011 – 12

The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) has been a statutory requirement for Primary Care Trusts and Local Authorities since 2008. The JSNA Executive Summary provides an objective analysis of current and future health and wellbeing needs of the population, assembling a wide range of quantitative and qualitative data.

This Summary includes changes to the process in terms of:

  • A wider, more holistic scope for the purposes of recognising wider determinants for health and wellbeing;
  • Providing a wider partnership working, including the voluntary sector as ‘quality assurance’;
  • Reflecting the changing roles of the NHS and local authorities and their responsibilities for commissioning services; and
  • Emerging legislative framework so guidance on a ‘good’ JSNA is still to be published.
