DISTRICT RATES FROM 2001-2011 ONWARDS WERE REVISED IN SEPTEMBER 2013 TO USE REVISED MID-YEAR POPULATION ESTIMATES The claimant count records the number of people claiming unemployment related benefits. These are currently the Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) and National Insurance credits claimed at Employment Service local offices. People who are claiming JSA must declare that they are out of work, capable of, available for and actively seeking work during the week in which the claim is made. Rates for wards in England from 2010 onwards are calculated using the mid-2010 resident population aged 16-64. These rates are subject to revisions each year as latest estimates become available.
