Trends in Claimant Count (April 2004 – April 2013): O2C ARC – Districts & Wards ( JD55Etwards )

This table shows the number of people claiming unemployment benefits, refered to as the claimant count. DISTRICT RATES FROM 2001-2011 ONWARDS WERE REVISED IN SEPTEMBER 2013 TO USE REVISED MID-YEAR POPULATION ESTIMATES The claimant count records the number of people claiming unemployment related benefits. These are currently the Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) and National Insurance credits claimed at Employment Service local offices. People who are claiming JSA must declare that they are out of work, capable of, available for and actively seeking work during the week in which the claim is made. Note: Rates are now worked out using the new defintion of working age. It now refers to all people aged 16-64. Rates for wards in England from 2010 onwards are calculated using the mid-2010 resident population aged 16-64. These rates are subject to revisions each year as latest estimates become available. Note: Blank spaces in the table indicate the value are missing.
