Trends in Claimant Count (April 2004 – April 2013): Regions & Districts ( JD55Et )

These data were obtained from the claimant Count, NOMIS. It provides information on numbers unemployed and on Claimant count unemployment rate. DISTRICT RATES FROM 2001-2011 ONWARDS WERE REVISED IN SEPTEMBER 2013 TO USE REVISED MID-YEAR POPULATION ESTIMATES The claimant count records the number of people claiming unemployment related benefits. These are currently the Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) and National Insurance credits claimed at Employment Service local offices. People who are claiming JSA must declare that they are out of work, capable of, available for and actively seeking work during the week in which the claim is made. Claimant count rates now refer to claimants as a percentage of the working age resident population (aged 16-64). Workforce jobs comprises employee jobs, self-employment jobs, HM Armed Forces and government supported trainees. These rates are subject to revisions each year as latest estimates, and any revisions to workforce jobs estimates for previous years, become available. Note: Rates for local authorities from 2012 onwards are calculated using the mid-2012 resident population aged 16-64. Rates for regions and countries from 2012 onwards are calculated using the mid-2012 resident population aged 16-64 These rates are subject to revisions each year as latest estimates become available. Blank spaces in the table indicate the value are missing.
