Births and Fertility Rate (1998-2012): Regions & Districts ( JD125Pa )

This table provides data on Live Births, Crude Birth Rate, Total Fertility Rate, and the General Fertility Rate or Ratio (GFR) for regions and districts in England from 1998-2012. Live Births is the total number of Births to residents of a specified area during the year. The General Fertility Rate or Ratio (GFR) represents the total yearly registered births to the population of women of ‘childbearing age’, defined as age 15-44. It is calculated as the ratio of live births per 1,000 women aged 15-44. The total fertility rate (TFR) is the average number of children that would be born per woman if women experienced the age-specific fertility rates of the year in question throughout their childbearing lifespan. The population used are based on 1998-2012 Mid year estimates. The rates between 2002 and 2010 have not been published as ONS have not updated the rates based on revised 2002-2010 Mid Year population estimates. These will be published in the winter of 2013. To protect confidentiality, all births and maternities from 2001 for the City of London LB and Isles of Scilly CD have been included with those for Hackney LB and Cornwall CD respectively.
