Census 2001: MK: Wards, OAs – Rooms, Amenities, Central Heating and Lowest Floor Level (KS19) ( JD198C )

This is one of the set of Key Statistics tables produced from the 2001 Census. The Key Statistics tables give summary results from the 2001 Census, presented as cross-classifications of variables in tabular format. This table provides information in counts and percentages on Number of rooms, Amenities, Central Heating and Lowest Floor Level.

A household is defined as one person living alone, or a group of people (not necessarily related) living at the same address with common housekeeping – that is, sharing either a living room or sitting room or at least one meal a day. The count of the number of rooms in a household’s accommodation does not include bathrooms, toilets, halls or landings, or rooms that can only be used for storage. Occupancy rating provides a measure of under-occupancy and over-crowding. It relates the actual number of rooms to the number of rooms ‘required’ by the members of the household A household’s accommodation is described as ‘with central heating’ if it had central heating in some or all rooms (whether used or not). Central heating included gas, oil or solid fuel central heating, night storage heaters, warm air heating and underfloor heating.

A household’s accommodation is described as having sole use of bath/shower and toilet if it had a bath/shower and a toilet for use only by that household. ‘Without sole use’ means that the household had to share, or did not have, one or both amenities. The lowest floor of the living accommodation. It relates to all household spaces, whether or not the space was occupied by a household. * The information is not available for unoccupied household spaces.

List of Households:
1. With Central Heating and sole use of Bath/Shower and Toilet
2. Without Central Heating or sole use of Bath/Shower and Toilet
3. Without Central Heating; with sole use of Bath/Shower and Toilet
4. With Central Heating, without sole use of Bath/Shower and Toilet

The confidentiality of personal Census information is paramount, and disclosure protection measures are used to prevent the inadvertent disclosure of information about identifiable individuals. When releasing the 2001 Census data ONS used incorrect ward boundaries for Wolverton and Stony Stratford wards. Figures for these two wards have been adjusted by MKC to reflect the correct boundaries.
