This table provides data on: Median house prices (£) Ratio of median house price to median earnings Ratio of lower quartile house price to lower quartile earnings The data is based on HM Land Registry house price data, downloaded from the Department for Communities and Local Government. The ratio data uses house price information from the first half of the year only The “median” and “lower quartile” property price is determined by ranking all property prices in ascending order. The median is the mid-point of this ranking with 50 per cent of prices below the median and 50 per cent above. The lowest 25 per cent of prices are below the lower quartile; the highest 75 per cent are above the lower quartile. The ratios are worked out using earnings data from the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings. It uses house price information from the first half of the year only. From the 1st of November 2012 DCLG no longer publishes this data at regional level.
