Looked after Children (2009 – 2013): Regions & LEAs ( JD119Ed )

This Table provides statistics on children looked after by local authorities. It covers number of children who have been looked after at 31 March 2009 to 2013 and rates per 10,000 children aged under 18 years. Figures exclude children looked after under an agreed series of short term placements. The term ‘looked after’ was introduced by the Children Act 1989, and includes both children who are subject to care orders and those who are accommodated. 1. Figures exclude children looked after under an agreed series of short term placements. 2. Historical data may differ from older publications. This is mainly due to the implementation of amendments and corrections sent by some local authorities after the publication date of previous materials. 3. England and Regional totals have been rounded to the nearest 10. Local authority figures have been rounded to the nearest 5. 4. The rates per 10,000 children under 18 years have been derived using the mid-year population estimates for 2011 provided by the Office for National Statistics.
