Nations, Regions & Districts – Index of Multiple Deprivation (2000) ( JD138Sb )

The Indices of Deprivation 2000 are measures of multiple deprivation for every ward and local authority area in England. It is based on the idea of distinct dimensions of deprivation which can be recognised and measured separately. These are then combined into a single overall measure.

  • Employment Deprivation This domain captures the proportion of the population experiencing employment deprivation.
  • Income Deprivation This domain captures the proportion of the population experiencing income deprivation.
  • Extent Score The aim of this measure is to portray how widespread high levels of deprivation are in a district. It is the proportion of a district’s population living in the wards ranking within the most deprived 10% of wards in England.
  • Local Concentration Population-weighted average of the ranks of a district’s most deprived wards that contain exactly 10% of the district’s population.
