This table is data from the 2007/8 Social Atlas it provides information about various social indicators at Estate and Settlement Level. Data is give for the indicators below as per 1,000 population/dwellings, rank (with 1 being the estate with most difficulties) and index (MK average=100).

DEFINITIONS AND METHODS INCOME Housing/Council Tax Benefit March 2008 Postcoded information on claimants was aggregated to estates/settlements and expressed per 1,000 dwellings. Estates and settlements are then ranked according to this figure. Milton Keynes average = 196.7 per 1,000 dwellings claim benefit.

CHILDREN Family Referrals April 2006 – March 2007 NOT UPDATED Counts of families referred to Social Services by estate expressed per 1,000 dwellings. Milton Keynes average = 17.7 per 1,000 dwellings. Note: this data could not be updated due to technical reasons but should be available in future years. Nursery Place Non-uptake 2007 Count of 3 and 4 year olds not attending a nursery or play school. Milton Keynes average = 291.4 per 1,000 3 and 4 year olds.

Children with Special Educational Needs (4 to 18 year olds) March 2008 Postcoded data on children statemented with special educational needs is aggregated and expressed per 1,000 pupils. Estates and settlements are then ranked according to this figure. Milton Keynes average = 32.8 per 1,000 pupils. Free School Meals March 2008 Postcoded information was aggregated to estates and settlements and expressed per 1,000 pupils. Estates and settlements are then ranked according to this figure. Milton Keynes average = 110.8 per 1,000 pupils.

Educational attainment 2007 The proportion of eligible pupils attaining BELOW Key Stage 2 level 4+ in English expressed per 1,000. Milton Keynes average: 235.0 per 1,000 pupils. The proportion of eligible pupils gaining LESS THAN 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C INCLUDING Mathematics and English expressed per 1,000. Milton Keynes average: 610.0 per 1,000 pupils. Note the difference to the previous data due to a change in Government assessment. Young Adults 18-24 year olds Not Receiving Student Awards September 2007 Postcoded information is aggregated and expressed per 1,000 18 to 24 year olds. Milton Keynes average = 854.5 per 1,000 18 to 24 year olds.

OLDER PEOPLE Older People Clients of Neighbourhood Services April 2007 – March 2008 Postcoded data on clients is aggregated and expressed per 1,000 pensioners. Estates and settlements are then ranked according to this figure. Milton Keynes average = 77.6 per 1,000 pensioners.

COMMUNITY FACTORS Domestic Fires Data April 2002 to March 2007 Bucks Fire and Rescue Services postcoded data on domestic fires is aggregated to estates and settlements and expressed per 1,000 households. Milton Keynes average = 9.9 per 1,000 households over 5 years. Violent Crime April 2007 – March 2008 Recorded Violent crime at estate and settlement level is expressed per 1,000 total population. Milton Keynes average = 28.7 per 1,000 people. Burglary (Dwellings) April 2007 – March 2008 Recorded Burglary from dwellings at estate and settlement level is expressed per 1,000 dwellings. Milton Keynes average = 10.8 per 1,000 dwellings. Criminal Damage April 2007 – March 2008 Recorded Criminal Damage is expressed per 1,000 population at estate and settlement level. Adult Continuing Education April 2007 – March 2008 Postcodes of clients enrolled in Adult Continuing Education courses were aggregated to estate and settlement level and expressed per 1,000 population not enrolled on ACE. HEALTH AND DISABILITY Teenage Conceptions (Under 20 year olds) January 2006 – December 2007 annualised. Births and terminations data to teenage girls aged under 20 are aggregated to estate and settlement and expressed as an annual average per 1,000 15 to 19 year old girls. Estates and settlements are then ranked according to this figure. Milton Keynes average = 52.2 per 1,000 15 to 19 year old girls. Concerns over data volatility mean that extreme caution should be used in the use of this indicator. Disabled Concessionary Fares March 2008 Postcoded data is aggregated to estate and settlement and expressed per 1,000 population. Milton Keynes average = 5.6 per 1,000 people. Health and Disability Disabled Clients of Neighbourhood Services April 2007 – March 2008 Postcoded data from Neighbourhood Services on teams for Learning disability, Physical disability, Mental Health, Duty Team, Joint Elderly and Mental Health, and the Hospital is aggregated to estate and settlement and expressed per 1,000 population. Milton Keynes average = 9.0 per 1,000 people aged 18-64.

Emergency Admissions April 2006 – March 2008 The number of Emergency Admissions into hospital are expressed per year per 1,000 population. Milton Keynes average = 97.6 per 1,000 people. Non Emergency Admissions April 2006 – March 2008 The number of Non Emergency Admissions into hospital are expressed per year per 1,000 population. Milton Keynes average = 110.0 per 1,000 people. A&E Attendances April 2005 – March 2008 The number attendances at the accident and emergency (A&E) are expressed per year per 1,000 population. Milton Keynes average = 241.0 per 1,000 people. Population Denominators – Population figures used in this publication are estimates from the 2007/8 Population Bulletin. Age specific populations are estimates based on postcoded figures from Buckinghamshire Health Authority Patient Registration data from the July 2007 patient register, these figures were then adjusted to match the 2007/8 Population Bulletin figures.
